  1. Any Advice? Any Tips welcome. I'm about to embark on a cellar conversation. The basement is dug into the hillside, and is a 19th century listed building. So it's old. The cellar has an external door and 2 small windows to a small courtyard - so it's not entirely submerged. (Pictures attached). It does also get a nice amount of airflow. My plan is to build a stud wall, insulate and line the space will drywall, covering up some of the shoddy surfaces. I hope to keep the left brick wall for some character. The biggest concern is the far left corner (seen in pictures). At some point, it's clearly been very damp, but today and for the last few months, it seems quite dry. I'm no pro when it comes to fixing up spaces like this, so any advice is welcome. My worry is that by tanking this corner and then building a stud wall in front, it might cut off the airflow to that area and subsequently causes the damp to return. Would this be the case? Should I somehow integrate a vent for airflow to continue, or should I point all the damaged brick work and then stud wall? It's a hefty job, but I really want to turn the space around. If anyone has any advice, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you! Freddie.
  2. I previously posted about using a wet room former in our ensuite but have since remembered that my 22mm egger is well and truly glued down to the joists and removal will be a stretch too far. In light of this I'm planning a 1600x800/900mm tray and hope the floor levels with tiling etc result in a fairly flush finish into the tray. Room is 1700mm x 3600mm and 100mm will be boxed out at one end to contain shower valve etc much like @Crofter design. I've read various threads about what to use under tiles and just want to check I've not missed anything before ordering materials in... Floor build up: 22mm P5 glued and screwed on 400mm cc posi joist. 6mm ply (and under tray?) glued and screwed at 150mm cc's Electric UFH mat (eBay) covered with self levelling (latex?) Tiles Walls: Shower area will be water resistant PB or cement board (brand?) ? both to be tanked fully as per @Nickfromwales excellent thread. Then fully tiled. Rest of walls to be water resistant PB and skim finish. In theory a fully tanked shower area will be fine with the water resistant PB but many seem to use cement board so I need to make a decision here. I can see the logic in cement board but if it's getting wet something else has gone wrong?! Have I missed anything important? Many thanks
  3. The sealing cuff that comes with the Hansgrohe iBox needs to be glued to the wall (a Hardie backer board). Can I “glue” it on with my tanking paste? And then tanking paste over the top too? And is the tight fit (going to have to stretch it / cut it to fit over the unit) expected? Thank you.
  4. Figured I might as well ask some questions on the subject of tanking a wet room on it's own thread! Might assist someone else. I have an Aquaseal Large Waterproof Tanking Kit. First off it comes with a "Waterproof Tanking Drain Mat", this: It's about 400x400mm. It's meant to go under / around the shower waste. However, as I'm having a Geberit wall drain that has a membrane built in: I was wondering if I could then use the now spare Drain Mat over the shower mixer?
  5. Our en-suite and main bathroom will both be wet rooms. I have identified the wet room formers for the 2 shower areas, they are 22mm thick, but for reasons of budget (lack of) I am not buying them yet. I do however want to floor most of the rooms. So what 22mm thick floor boarding for a wet room, suspended on Posijoists at 600mm centres? Is it as simple as P5 chipboard, or something more exotic?
