  1. Hi, We've recently moved into our small farmhouse in Cumbria and just starting renovation. First project managing ground water and installing underfloor heating.
  2. Looking for some info about how best to tie in a new blockwork extension into existing stone cottage. Is it just a matter of using the regular wall starter kits (furfix) or is there specialist products for use in stone walled buildings? Thanks
  3. We have Internorm windows with a spruce wood interior and are planning on laying an oak floor so a bit unsure what type of window cill to fit. I want a low maintenance house so not keen on MDF/HDF which will need painting.I should mention that the window is 3.5m wide so brings with it a few problems. One thought we had was to make one using the flooring but I am not sure this will look right. Other options are a stone cill but may need a join due to the length. What have people used that we may consider?
  4. We plan to have the ground floor walls of the new build clad with some sort of stone cladding (TerryE, I've been reading your blog notes on this with interest) and I'm favouring one that comes in an interlocking z shape tile format at the moment. Although there is a supplier local to me, I'm having difficulty locating alternatives so that I can compare prices. I think the local guy is reasonable, but that's just in comparison to loose stone cladding that doesn't come in tile format. The tile type is appealing as, I'm guessing, it will take less labour to attach to the building and less (if any) mortar. Can anyone suggest any suppliers?
  5. Hi everyone as you you will guess I am new to this forum and any replies will be appreciated. My query is this. We have a semi-detached house with rosemary tiles that we are replacing with slate. We have an abutment to the left hand side made of stone (sits on bricks just below the surface of the roof so the only part that I can abut anything to is stone I planned on using one of the grp secret gutters then lay a lead alternative flashing on the edge of the stone over and into the grp gutter what do people think? From looking around it would seem that most other similar roofs the stones have been lifted off then rebedded onto the tiles/slates however the neighbours wont let us lift the stones have seen plans that state they own the stones so we're a bit stuck any suggestions!
  6. I have a MBC timber frame which part will be clad in stone but with the sure cav (50mm) between stone and timber frame having difficulty in finding lintels deep enough. Anyone know of standard timber frame lintels larger than the standard 100mm size?
  7. I've tried for a year not to post this image. I just couldn't take the pressure any more. Goggle and weep. This where I get my hardcore - and a lot more. A lot more The keys are in the ignition, there's a copy of the Daily Mirror on the dash. Please don't tell anyone.
