  1. Hi guys quick background Self build house - dno installed power to plot boundary in a metal kiosk that houses our smart meter, (supply then runs to our cu in the house) Desperately trying to join Octopus go as we are on ASHP but can't as our smet2 meter wont communicate with DCC They seem to think its due to the meter being housed in a metal cabinet apparently there was a some small amount of data sent which they guess was when door was open - which im going to do a another test with them to see if this is the case we are in North Yorkshire so meter works with arqiva on radio waves anyone had this issue with their smart meter not communicating due to metal cabinet , if this is the cause how and who would i contact to get it rehoused , is this even possible? thanks in advance! Oliver
  2. I have a house battery and an EV and want to take advantage of the time of use or EV tariffs. The problem I have is getting a 3 phase smart meter installed. I have had failed attempts where meter installer turns up expecting it to be single phase. So can anyone on the forum answer these question:- 1. Do you have a 3 phase smart meter? 2. Which energy supplier fitted it? 3. Are you able to benefit from 'smart' tariffs? Thanks D
  3. Hi there. We're upgrading our sixties house in Sussex with a GSHP, underfloor heating and a new hobby room (separate building) with a goodly chunk of solar PV to go onto its roof. The hobby room will have a separate ASHP. The insulation in the house has also been improved. We've done most things in the house but the new hobby room is yet to be built (we have planning permission) and we're just at the stage of re-wiring the existing house. Octopus have installed a three phase smart meter, although we only have two phases to the house (and that ain't gonna change). Stumbled across this site and wonderful forum when searching for how the importing and exporting of power is going to work with two phases, potentially phases both generating and using power. Any experience or knowledge in that area gratefully received! Cheers UncleK
  4. Got our first electricity bill the other day for which I'd had to submit the reading because the supplier we are with (Good energy) don't "do" smart meters yet. The bill seemed rather high - we knew it would be because of the current situation we are in with the window company letting us down so we are having to run fan heaters 24/7 , but it seemed even higher. So I added up the monthly totals the meter records and compared this figure to the overall consumption figure it gives - and they don't match. The month-by-month consumption comes out a lot lower than the supposed total. When I queried this our supplier says that this is why they are not yet using smart meters electronically for readings as they think there are a lot of teething issues still to be resolved & they are waiting to see which models work best (but since they themselves don't actually install meters I'm not sure how correct this is), hence why I had to physically read it and call the reading in. Anyway, naturally they want the highest figure to be right and I the lowest, but given that if the meter cannot do simple addition then indeed *both* could be wrong, Ive queried it with them and they insisted they won't check it unless I produce photographic evidence (because naturallly I'd lie over a few quids worth of electricity! Which slightly peeves me tbh ). So instead I videoed it. Currently they are "deciding if it needs to be checked or not". Has anyone else had such basic issues with a smart meter as it being unable to add up properly?
  5. Two quick questions. 1 - I have Severn Trent wanting to install a smart water meter. It is in the road not on my property - can I still refuse? 2 - Can a Smart Meter be removed after it has been installed? How long does that right last, and can it be done at switch time? Cheers F
