  1. I had hoped to have my home-made CNC router built by now, but I've been too busy to put it all together and then learn how to drive it. It's first job was going to be making an oak house sign for the new house. I have the design drawn up in CAD, and also have a selection of oak boards, so I'm looking for someone who can rout out the design for me. The sign is about 500mm x 200mm, and includes text and a simple line graphic, that I'm hoping should be fairly easy to cut with a vee routing bit. All I can find online are people who make complete custom house signs, and they are expensive, as they include hand finishing, sealing etc, all stuff I'm happy to do myself. Does anyone know of someone with a small CNC router that could do this job for a reasonable fee, please?
  2. So, rooting through the power tools inherited from dad I finally investigate the router. It turns out to be one of these Eru MOF 177/2 Type 2, with an 1850W motor. The exploded parts diagram in the manual is stamped Apr. 89. Dad certainly bought good tools. Given that ELU were taken over by deWalt (subsidiary of Black and Decker) in 1994, it must be 1989-1994 vintage. I think it still exists as the evolved deWalt DW625, which can still be bought in Screwfix. I am seeing posts from about 2009 saying "an old 'un but a good 'un - pity they were taken over, buy one secondhand. I have had mine 25 yeas and it is still going strong". So they would be the bees-knees when we still had bees. So presumably dad's choice of tool was pretty good. Is there anything i need to know, never having used a router before? The context is a worktop needing fitting with 2 right-angles on Monday or Tuesday , but for that I think I will oppo for somebody who is experienced, despite having grasped the concepts. cheers Ferdinand
  3. I've got my virgin wifi / router / hub thing in my 1st reception ( dining ) room downstairs. Now I need to get cat5's throughout the house and not enough outlets on the virgin do-dah. 1) Will the wifi be better with do-dah moved to mid house first floor, at floor level? 2) Can I take 1 cat5 out of do-dah and go to a larger ( more ports ) mains powered router at aforementioned location? 3) Should every cat5 device have its own run from point to point? Do I run one cable to the Xbox and another separate run to the smart tv above it, or can I split the cable behind the Xbox? Multiple rooms to do with same scenario. Mucho gratsi-arse. ?
