  1. I have recently ditched BT, I was tied in until Jun/Jul 19, however with the price increase you can ditch within 30 days of notification. I am going with Vodafone as we are in the FIbre area (Fiber box "in" my front hedge). I gave BT the chance to match Vodafone but they could only offer the broadband at the same price then you added line rental, Vodafone had no line rental. So next day I confirmed with Vodafone and called BT to tell them to (politely shove off), they then offered me the price without having to pay line rental and if you go online you can get it with "line rental for 18 months included". I wonder how many customers they had to lose before realising that everybody else was offering prices without charging line rental! Out of principal I was going to leave anyway (issues with our re-connection another story) and would recommend that to anybody as they are pushing themselves as paying more for a premium service (their quote) when I quoted the Plusnet prices to them (BT owned) and they also pushed free BT sport (I am not interested in subsidising Footballers, if I was I would have Sky Sports packages). We are also changing the in laws over to Vodafone Fibre. anybody else looking at this?
  2. We are about to book a phone line connection We are having to go with an overhead cable It seems that whichever company we decide to use Openreach carry out all the physical work We have always been with BT for internet Does anyone know of any offers
  3. I am looking for a new TV / Broadband / Phone setup. Currently I am on a Virgin package with lots of TV, theoretically very High Speed Broadband, and inclusive weekend / evening phone calls. We are generally happy with our mobile phone setup. Currently I am with Virgin and could price-match them into taking a few ££ off, but really the performance is poor and intermittent, and I want to move. Our requirements are: decent Internet, Freeview type selection of TV channels, and phone with inclusive weekend / evening calls. We cannot get a good signal for Freeview (tried that first). However, following the neighbour's removal of a couple of trees, we can now have a satellite dish. Suggestions, and also comments on Now-TV, would be welcome. Ferdinand
  4. To anyone who has done a demolition and rebuild, and lived on site, what did you do with your BT phone / broadband supply? can we just strip the BT box off the exterior wall of existing house, recover the internal cabling and somehow connect to a static van temporarily? or is it going to be more complicated than that?
  5. Looking for some advice about arranging my new connection. Have read everything I can online and so far just getting confused. I originally contacted BT who said yes they could organise the connection but not until I signed up for a phone package. Decided to go straight to OpenReach and filled in the registration form. I now have an email saying they want to charge me a non-refundable £299 to send someone out to survey the job and that they have a 25 day lead time. Is this the standard response or have I done something wrong? Can't find any info regarding this fee for surveying the job anywhere. I thought it was free up to £3400? Any advice welcome.
  6. So following on from the discussion about eye watering BT connection costs, does anyone have the definitive answer on where a master box has to be installed..?? Query is this - plot is on a corner, with a road running along the boundary to the right and a track to the front. House is near in line with a telegraph pole on the opposite side of the road, but the line would be overhead as per next door. Opposite the drive is a BT connection box in the ground and its across a track that we have rights over. Downside to that is the 35m up the drive from the connection which I expect BT will want to do so is going to be silly expensive. I could terminate at the gates as with the power but not sure where BT insist on installing master sockets..?
