I need to decide where to put the hockey stick for the electricity meter as the sub floor blockwork plan is being finalised. The diagram below shows where the electricity enters site and the DNO would make the connection. I can see three main options A - On the house elevation nearest pole and most visible from the drive B - On the rear elevation nearest the pole and visible from gthe back garden C - On the utility wall (rear or side) where the plant is located, but not the ASHP D - On the garage which is where the ASHP is to be located The Air Source Heat Pump is planned to be on the back of the garage so as to hide it visually and acoustically. I have asked ASHP suppliers and they say that run of pipe to the house is fine. What do people think? I am tempted to go with 3 phase as well as the pole supports that (site previously had it).

Hi all, I am breaking ground on my build (Hooray!) albeit only to connect my temporary builders electricity supply ("TBS"). UKPN are laying the main up to the boundary of my property (£££ ). Is the following quote generally OK for the extra bits that I have to arrange: Ground mounted meter box, £600 (zero rated for VAT as supply & fit) Excavate a short length of trench from my plot your boundary to the meter box location (perhaps 2 metres under concrete, 485mm deep), lay duct and backfill with warning tape, form concrete plinth, and fix meter housing £950 (zero rated for VAT) Electrical work required to provide the earth and tails: awaiting a quote. How much might I expect this to be? Any advice appreciated. By the way, does the meter box need to be ground mounted? There is a panel fence there but not much else. -
I was reading a few posts in this section and the same applies with us re: our gas main is actually closer to the REAR of the property and so I have been advised the meter can go on that rear wall. this has one BIG advantage for us .. The meter location shown is 39M from the main in the road we are connecting to. Anything over 40M is classified as a "major" connection and prices go Loooopy (apparently) If we were to connect it to the front utility room wall (as you cannot run gas under a house) it would be another 17m trip around (gulp) At last a bit of luck But my real question is about the gas meter box ....well to be honest the electric one too ...I have a bricklayer starting in about 4 weeks and i need to get everything in for him....and i am presuming the 2 meter boxes are required. Due to a narrow 1.5m path at the side ..i don't really fancy a "sticky out one" Is there anyone with experience of installing a "built in one" ...I have a timber frame potton house ...(if that makes a difference Thanks in advance for any advice

I have bought the meter box. Before I fit it to the wall above the hockey stick today I need to drill a hole so that the cable can be fed into the box. Does that hole have to have some sort of rubber grommet or gland to keep the water out? Or can I just drill a hole the same size as the hockey stick?

Presumably I can't staple an old shoe box to a wall and tell my electric supply company to stick the cable and meters in it, so are there specific regs to adhere - some of the regular meter boxes I've seen are just tooo ugly to have inside....
