  1. Been renovating a Hrade 2 listed building for around 6 years now, had builders to start with but had to sack them as wasting time, money and rubbish job. Installed 22kW gshp and all running well, now istalling off grid solar and a little confused about how to go fro 3 phase to 3 separate single phase consumer boards. We asked for dno apprpval but local supply can't support us, wanted 50k to put us on 3 phase. Hence Solar and off grid. Iscthere anyonecwho supplies correct kit to go from 200amp 3 phase split down andcsupplying up to 80 amp on any single leg? Picture, link or really good description would be much appreciated. Solar is 48 panels of 410w to 3 x 10kW inverters in parallel. 6 x 100amp 52v batteries in series linked to all 3 inverters, Master and 2 slaves. Output will be from the single master inverter. We will end up off grid. Soon as Solar is running. Don't want ENW to have anything from us!!
  2. I hope someone here can help. I had a GSHP installed 7 year ago and it has worked well except for the ground sinking above each of the bore holes. When they were drilling the bore hole they got to 100m and hit water so a second bore hole of 80m had to be drilled 20m further down my drive. I always assumed the ground sinking was due to water leaking from the boreholes but now I’m not so sure. A trench 1 metre deep was dug between each bore hole and back to my garage where the GSHP is located. There are no inspection chambers above either bore hole which I thought was strange but was assured at the time was not required. This year the ground above each bore hole raised as did the ground above the trench and it is clear that it is frozen making a mess of my paved drive. The question is how to a cure this and prevent a repetition. My first thoughts were come the summer to did up the drive and expose all the pipes and boreholes. Create an inspection chamber above each bore hole. Insulate all the pipes.I was also considering a duct for the connecting pipes but was worried about water ingress into that. Would insulating the pipes work or would they through time just become an extension of the pipe and get as cold. Any help would be appreciated Thanks Ally
  3. Well, got the heating on 1st December and the MCS certificate first week if January. The EPC took a while. The online ones were a waste of time so got a local (ish) man in. Although he was very busy so it did take a couple of weeks. Got the EPC the second week in Feb then filled in the online RHI forms and process. Went well except we used the joint build bank account for the payments. Once entered it can't be changed. So the needed verification of the account, inside leg, number of eyes etc. However they are excellent on the phone. A couple of emails and it was sorted. Got the payment detail though today. All in with the UFH (400sqm) and 1500m of pipe in the garden and while we did most of the install ouselves, elecrical, most plumbing and all UFH. it still cost around £35k for the whole heating and hotwater system . Good news that the RHI will cover this over the seven years.
  4. The general view on this forum appears to be that GSHP and ASHP with UFH should in the ideal conditions be on for most of the time and the room temps set to the required level and not changed. While I understsand the processes and calculations involved in heat transfer and heat loss and the time taken to heat a room with low and slow as opposed to high and quick, what I am failing to understand is why I have been sold as "Ideal for control" for my GSHP supplied UFH a set of expensive all singing thermostats with internet connection that I can set any range of setting from anywhere in the world. When the companies commissioning process recomends all the features are turned off and reduced to a basic stat setting am I correct in thinking I have been ripped off?
  5. Hi All, I hope you're keeping well! I just wanted to introduce myself 'Joe' to the forum as I have been a long time reader and now hopefully getting closer to starting my own build. The forum is such a great resource for information and the knowledge of the users is simply amazing - I really do appreciate everything I have read here as it has helped me so far on my journey. I am hoping to learn as I go and all being well, I'll be able to help others as I pass through each stage of the build and gain my own knowledge and experiences. The house is a two story house with a connection to single story building for the kitchen, dinning and living area which in total is approx 330m2 sitting on 0.8 of an acre. It will have a ground source heat pump, with underfloor heating on the ground and first floor, mechanical ventilation heat recovery system and a PV solar array with battery. Windows triple glazed throughout. The current SAP report SAP rating: 92 A Environmental: 93 A If I have missed anything I will update the above. All the best, Joe
  6. Slinky trench typical example 10m long produces about 1kw so 4kw equals 40m trench. However spacing between trenches 5m apart. So 200 square meters for 4kW Single pipe down a trench about 15w per meter. Trenches about 1.2 meters apart. So 4 kW about 400 meters square? All as rough numbers depending on lots of factors but you get the gist.
  7. Hi there. We're upgrading our sixties house in Sussex with a GSHP, underfloor heating and a new hobby room (separate building) with a goodly chunk of solar PV to go onto its roof. The hobby room will have a separate ASHP. The insulation in the house has also been improved. We've done most things in the house but the new hobby room is yet to be built (we have planning permission) and we're just at the stage of re-wiring the existing house. Octopus have installed a three phase smart meter, although we only have two phases to the house (and that ain't gonna change). Stumbled across this site and wonderful forum when searching for how the importing and exporting of power is going to work with two phases, potentially phases both generating and using power. Any experience or knowledge in that area gratefully received! Cheers UncleK
  8. Hi, Recently my GSHP has been playing up again - occasionally not heating water and displaying an error "High pressure plant fault". This goes away when you hit escape and it then seems to get on with the job. I asked the contractors that service it to come check it. They looked at the filters but couldn't see anything much. They recommended that the UFH side of the system should be cleaned out and an extra filter should be fitted between the heating system and the heat exchanger. They implied it was probably a good idea to do this regardless as the system is 5 years old now. Their estimate for this work is : Back-flush heat exchanger – 2 men for 6 hrs £498.00 Fit filter and add chemical – 2 men for 2 hrs £241.00 Flush after 2wks and dose – 2 men for a day £664.00 All those figures ex-vat - and only an estimate. I think they want 2 men because one guy knows about the GSHP and the other is a UFH specialist. This company is the only one locally that has anyone that knows anything about GSHP - so I don't get to shop around. Its been working fine the last few days - so I'm wondering if the problem is fixed anyway... A few questions : Is it a good idea to get this done every 5 years anyway? Is it likely to fix my problem (if I still have one)? Is the estimate reasonable? thanks as ever for any advice - reddal
