Hi all, I hope someone can help. Recently noticed that the door that was recently fitted by our builder looks like it's bursting out of the wall! The builder said that it's just not finished and that the trim around the edge still needs to go on, but my suspicion is that they've put too much expanding foam into the side of the door frame. The render appears to bow outwards. Any views on this would be greatly appreciated.

We heard some 'funny' noises this morning in the attic. No smell of mice and no droppings but odd little patches of broken foam, nibbled? Anyone experience of mice living in spray foam or using it for nest building? Thanks Paul

I've tried to find a thread on the forum about spray pu insulation without success. Does anyone have experience of it regarding cost and insulation values compared to PIR? I'm planning to insert 140 mm PIR into my open panel timber frame walls. But i have so many studs at varying centres that i'm considering alternatives.

You'll know of my adventures with foam. ? And so you can imagine how careful I now am about using the stuff. Got more foam gun cleaner cans than cans of foam. Imagine then how I feel when the little spray attachment is as detachable as Trump's wig. It threatens to fall off as soon as you look at it. And when three fall off when on the top of the scaffolding to disappear into the maw of the mess that accumulates under the scaffolding. The little lanyard is about as thick as Donald Trump's skin : the spray attachment falls off at the slightest excuse. Who has solved this annoying little issue?

Have a look at this. Just about finished insulating between the rafters, and putting on the counter-battens. There are bits and bats of foam in the 50mm ventilation gap. Do I need to trim the foam flush with the top of the PIR? Thanks in advance. Ian

Treated myself to a decent pair of work trousers from local work-wear shop. At last my knee pads stay where they are put. (The Aldi version of the trousers allows the pads to float free: kneeling meant swearing ☹️ ) Up on the scaffolding, while screwing it onto the gun, a tube of foam decides to dump it's contents on my lap and the scaffolding boards. I slip on the wet foam , and sit in it. OK, calm down at the back now please. Anyone know how to get dried foam out of my knickers, my watch strap, my hands, my watch face, my work boots, my socks, my trousers. From now on... if foaming, I'm changing to the Aldi trousers. Never mind my knees.

I am adding 25mm of calotex to the underside of my rafters which have 170mm already in them. I will then be putting up osb and then plasterboard. My question is should i use everbuild pink grip or soudel low expansion foam to initially hold them in place. I imagine i would cut the sheets to size, foam or pink grip the sheet and push it into place, temporarily fix a batten across to hold the sheets in place until its all finished and then remove battens and foam up the gaps, cut back and tape the joints. Its just a matter of what would work best on that initial pushing up into possition. Once the osb is screwed up its not going anywhere. Or should i be using something completely different? Thanks in advance.

Pizza on the menu tonight. Deb's job for today: gap-filling with foam. Decided to make us both a cup of coffee, came into the kitchen to find this working away quietly in preparation for tonight's pizza base. Took me a second or two to believe it was yeast and not Soudal. She's a bit of a practical joker..... Ian

I got some inspiration from you all....... I bought another container yay! Trouble is it's a bit rusty in parts. So, scorched by the heat of my own brilliance at welding , I got the grinder out and had a happy half hour getting this far.. Now even I know that ain't good enough, level enough, bright enough, so I chickened out I am deeply ashamed and am off to the pub early to drown my sorrows and incompetence. Thing is, do I cut a piece out, and then weld over the top? Or do I just grind away until there's enough bright metal to which to weld (I'm stick welding)? Please tell me foam will be fine. Have a productive weekend. Ian

I haven't used expanding foam for quite a while and then only the normal cans with plastic nozzle. I need to order some to help me level up the first course of ICF but don't know whether to get the gun type or plastic nozzles? What's the big advantage of buying/using a gun?
