I just had a couple of fire door linings replaced as they were not deep enough after I overboarded the stud wall they are set in. The original linings were made with 30mm thick timber, and I only realised this evening that the new linings are made of 20mm thick timber. One of the doors was also replaced with a heavier fire door , about 45kg. The frames seem sturdy and the doors close fine, but I’m concerned 20mm isn’t thick enough long term for such heavy doors. Also there is now a 4cm gap on one side of the doors filled with foam which doesn’t seem very fire safe…. What do you think?

What happens when a rule about venting by 7600mm2 underneath doors (eg 10mm x 760mm) conflicts with another rule about making certain doors fire doors. I thought fire doors needed intumescent strips. Do they still let enough ventilation through for MVHR (when the house is not on fire, which is the state I will aim for)? -
Hi, Our new kitchen extension is open plan onto the downstairs hall and staircase. So we've fitted linked alarms in kitchen (heat), hall (smoke) and landing (smoke), and fitted egress window hinges to all bedrooms. Building control now want a linked smoke alarm fitted in the master bedroom, along with a fire door, because the master bedroom has an ensuite bathroom. I don't understand the need for a bedroom fire door and bedroom linked smoke alarm just because the bedroom has an ensuite. Please can somebody explain. Thanks.

Afternoon, I need to have a 60s fire door between my house and garage. My plans spec a 762 door but I think this is too narrow and maybe I should match the other internal doors and go 838. Are there standard sizes for fire doors and has anyone come across nice looking well insulated ones? I also want it to be very secure. The wall between the house and garage is 370 so I guess I could have 2 doors if need be?
