  1. I need to decide where to put the hockey stick for the electricity meter as the sub floor blockwork plan is being finalised. The diagram below shows where the electricity enters site and the DNO would make the connection. I can see three main options A - On the house elevation nearest pole and most visible from the drive B - On the rear elevation nearest the pole and visible from gthe back garden C - On the utility wall (rear or side) where the plant is located, but not the ASHP D - On the garage which is where the ASHP is to be located The Air Source Heat Pump is planned to be on the back of the garage so as to hide it visually and acoustically. I have asked ASHP suppliers and they say that run of pipe to the house is fine. What do people think? I am tempted to go with 3 phase as well as the pole supports that (site previously had it).
  2. Hello, I'm based in Oxfordshire. I'm not a self-builder but I undertake significant home improvement projects (e.g. total gutting and refit of the bathroom, from the sub-floor services upwards and the sub-plaster inwards). However, my main interest in joining this forum are the discussions about utility poles on homeowners' land. Regards to all, Oxonian
  3. With friends like the good folk from my DNO, who needs enemies? I'm already persona non grata with the neighbours. This sign refers to work on our electricity connection which needs a trench dug across our lane: all of 4 meters at its widest. The work will be done on the 20th, and finished on that day too: so tells me the man who is low enough in the pecking order to really matter. Might be an idea to visit a different pub tonight - lets try one in Barrow in Furness - that'll be far enough away - inaccessible too.
  4. UPDATE - no luck getting SSE to budge at all on the price quoted for connection (£12k+) so looking into outsourcing as much as possible to an ICP or IDNO. Looking down the enormous list of possible companies is rather daunting - who to approach for quotes??? Can anyone recommend any particular companies. I have Clancy Dowcra doing the trenches for water connection - has anyone used them for their electricity? Thanks in advance.
