  1. If anyone is interested in visiting just let me know. We will be on hold for a while whilst we try and sell our house to fund the remainder of the build. The Isotex blocks are very much on show internally - see attached picture. Also, I have dropped in a picture of a the largest box gutter roof I have ever built. The fibre glass is attached to a 36mm deck of OSB3 with a separating layer of VP400 (to reduce rain noise - separating the layers of board).

  2. I used these through my flat roof to hallway ; https://www.sterlingbuild.co.uk/product/lightway-crystal-300-hp-blue-performance-0-6 Double glazing is within the insulated section, not at the end. Not getting any condensation and seem thermally perfectly adequate. They're great for light to find my way in a corridor with no direct natural light, but in the proposed kitchen scenario where some areas are getting hard sun I wouldn't expect the tubes to balance matters and make the other areas feel 'sunny'...with some spilled ambient light in those areas anyway the sun tubes effect could almost be lost....i think.

  3. In my experience suntunnels are great. Rigid are far better than the flexible ones and the bigger the better although the smaller ones are still better than nothing. My bathroom before: My bathroom after: This is the 14" rigid velux version with about a 30 deg kink in the pipe. The insulation issue isnt really to do with the tunnel itself as you can wrap that fairly well with insulation. The issue is the 2 ends where the internal bit is a fairly rubbish attempt at plastic double glazing Hth Ed

  4. What's the problem with doing as recommended in part H? I would ask building control about deviations from part H. Might be ok as part H isn't actually the regs, just an approved guide. I've just fitted a Vortex STP and when I did the calcs for the drainage field I realised it was going to cost more than the STP. Luckily I can discharge to a nearby water course, though you need approval from the environment agency to do this, or NRW in my case

  5. I think you would be better leaving temporary works design to others as it is potentially high risk and you are not skilled to do this. You could expose yourself to all sorts of issues and CDM would come into play.

  6. This one https://www.diy.com/departments/goodhome-calera-straight-1-panel-bath-screen-w-850mm/3663602769552_BQ.prd Note the reviews about the lousy bottom seal, don't use one over a bath it you actually want a seal that works. They hinge all the way in both directions. Yes it does touch the shower controls so just be gentle. At that point it is almost parallel with the wall. The other one hinges underneath the shower rose and under the little shampoo rack in the corner.

  8. So this is what we ended up doing. I gave up on custom made screens, the glass companies locally are still shut and from looking at this previously I had difficulty finding hinges that hinge both ways. So we bought a pair of the cheap off the shelf short shower screens from a well known orange DIY shop. The ones we chose had good reviews for the build and appearance but lousy reviews for the pathetic excuse for a sealing strip along the bottom. But we are not using that sealing strip (that is indeed pathetic) so it did not matter, So here is the finished result: Although they are low, almost no water goes over the top, and not much under the gap at the bottom either. They enclose you while showering to keep the rest of the room dry, and when not showering they both fold flat against the wall leaving the (not very big) room open. The search is now on for something similar for the other bathroom, except we want a matching pair of screens, one 800-900mm and the other 300mm. It is the 300mm hinged screen I can't seem to find.

  9. We went on holiday to Egypt quite a few years ago and my daughter (her bathroom) left a tap just slightly open causing a drip and when we came home the 40mm pipe was completely frozen, it had frozen to -10 while we were away though!

  10. EPDM would not be my choice i would use GRP and then you know it will never leak EPDM ,looks like a tricky layup with lots of joints grp there will be NO joints at all as you would lay it up around all these complicated sky lights in one go

  11. To work out your views you need to set up a gauge rod go and buy a length of roof batten 4.8m long. Mark on it your finished floor height( roughly) then mark on it your ground floor ceiling height, then how high your floor joists will be roughly 300mm this will give you first floor height. If one of you holds it up it will give you an idea of how high you feet will be off the ground when stood upstairs go and get a big stepladder or hire a small scaffolding tower and set it up, both get up there with a cup of tea and have a good look and think. Spending £200 now could be the best decision you make. I will tell you a story about mine, we have stunning views, the sort of views you would pay hundreds of thousands for. we Have a BIG picture window in our bedroom, I showed my mate around the house a few months back, as we have known each other 30 years he speaks his mind with me which is cool, the conversation goes like this. Him. You cocked up here, you should have a patio door there me. Why him. So you can walk out of your bedroom and look at the view me. Who would want a patio door in the bedroom him. Well I have one in mine, it’s excellent me. Really, oh, how often do you use it?? him. Ooh I don’t know, haven’t been out of it for————— a few years I reckon, tbh I think we lost the key to it. So have a really good think of how YOU will use the house. Because of our views every designer we talked to wanted to put in 6-7m wide bi folding doors, we used to live in Australia so out there it would be the thing to do, but over here, really, how many days of the year will they be wide open, we went for a large sliding door and a big picture window so we can enjoy the view from the comfort of indoors.

  13. Did not think price was important. Ask @pocster how much his stuff cost when he charges himself 50p an hour.
