  1. Maybe apply some clear anti-slip tape to the nose of each tread. https://www.seton.co.uk/clear-anti-slip-tape.html?utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI1Ybd2eLz3QIVaLvtCh1aGQM1EAQYASABEgKUbPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds#CLEAR4

  2. I have been using www.floorplanner.com, which is free, but I was paying to get it to output renders of what it would really look like. I have however just switched over to using Sketchup, which is more difficult but much more powerful. I've been using it in conjunction with a plugin called Enscape, which lets you see renders in realtime, and lets me put myself into the design using a virtual reality headset. Sketchup is free (download the Sketchup 2017 version - don't use the new online SketchupFree version, but enscape costs a monthly fee). Pete

  4. I have one and love it. Really makes lifting out large oven trays much easier.

  5. How can you have a dry shower? ?? Anyhoo the leaking won’t be noticeable until the day it all collapses ?

  6. Who is going to get in your shower? You seem to switch between Jennifer, Kylie and Jodie pretty rapidly ... Or will you just be having dreams in your shower? Might be a bit wet

  7. What are you guys on? It’s Aidan Turner with no shirt on all the way for me since George got hitched ?

  8. Bit late to it. Went to the NSBRC today for a strut around and meet a couple of bods. A decent range of stands there.

  9. Onoff has just had two Neurofen and no beer. Day consisted of: Emptied/loaded the dishwasher. Cleared some leaves. Did the n/s ball joint on the Golf / cut one piece of ply to support the tiles over the window. Wet cut one tile for the bottom rhs of the window. Broke that bit of trim off. Then respite home, hospital, Co- op & home. Living the dream! Only the thought of Jodie Whittaker shortly is keeping me going!

  10. I ran a thick bead of mitre bond up/along the tile edge then sprayed activator on the back of the trim before pressing it on. Stuck myself to it half a dozen times!

  14. lol it's just a dream of mine to have a nice big garage/workshop as I love my tools and gadgets. It's probably more important than the house!!! I couldn't work out why the door between the house and garage was small so that's already been increased to an 838 door to match all other downstairs internal doors. The garage doors will be electric but I may have extra security locks on the garage doors, so that would be a good reason to have the pedestrian door. I really don't know which way to go so maybe the best thing is to put the rebar in for the lintel over a door and cut it out later if I decide to???

  15. Oh and go to Curry’s and try a hide and slide - the handles are awful and crack you across the knuckles if you get them wrong..! It’s a classic aesthetic over usability issue ....

  16. All built in ovens fit in the housings - the width is the same on any built in +/- 2mm. There should be a trim piece to cut down - looks a bit like a drawer front and it says filler on the order. What happens is you fit the oven into the bottom of the cavity then cut the trim lengthways to fit above the oven and bond it to the carcass.

  17. An alternative to reducing centres or increasing depth is to increase the chord width of the metal web joist. Our maximum span is 5.9m at 254mm depth with 400mm centres but much wider chords.

  19. On the Neff, the best deals I can find for A Neff Slide and Hide (Grade A Catalytic Fan Oven) are for this one. The link is at £550 to B&Q of all places: https://diy.com/departments/neff-b44m42n5gb-stainless-steel-electric-slide-hide-single-oven/1409102_BQ.prd At B&Q you can nurdle.a bit more off with cash back etc .. perhaps £25 or a bit more if the pensioner or other discount applies and if you use a cash card. May be very slightly better deals on EBay outlets. I think that is the one I installed in the Little Brown Bungalow, and the previous tenants I signed out yesterday who are about to buy their first house were very happy with the t’oven. Better deals we’re available least year ... under £400 minus nurdles, so it may worth watching for Black Friday etc. Ferdinand

  20. If I never see another TV ad for smart meters it will be too soon and I will save a heap of energy and turn my TV off because I don't understand what the advantage of having one is for the householder given that most people don't track or care about their energy usage anyway.

  21. Seems like a lot of work for not a lot to show today! Basically just trimmed the pockets and laid 5 mosaics in the back. Cant do the top ones yet until the Sticks Like Sh!t holding the 6m Aqua Panel goes off. And now the warts: Pocket next to the mixer valve, this tile is a bit proud. Will grout get in there? I've cut a tile to sit at the slight angle at the base of this pocket. Strip of plastic just to aid removal! The tile was nom 75mm on the left and 80mm on the right. I had to shorten it lengthwise to get it in: Should it sit slightly proud of this trim where I've hooked my nail under? So now what? How to fix it? Tile adhesive obviously but I need I believe to CT1 where the back of the tile meets the mosaics, this is a scored and diamond filed edge. Ditto the front edge - that's a factory edge. Or do I not use tile adhesive at all, just CT1 around all 4 edges? But then the tile is short lengthwise? @Nickfromwales...HELP!

  22. Even with no internal walls, with a building 5m x 9m internally, 300mm deep joists will normally be fine. Allow another 60mm for floor deck, finishes and ceilings, so 360mm max for floor zones. You can find a calculator at https://www.jamesjones.co.uk/interactive-span-table The Easi Joist values are very similar.

  23. Do you have to run MVHR pipes horizontally in the floor? Could you run the pipes vertically in a corner? They are likely to have to go vertically as well anyway.

  24. The floor depth depends almost entirely on the maximum span of the joists and the distance between their centres. For example, we have a maximum span of around 4.5m, with 253mm deep Posijoists at 400mm centres. If you have a greater single span then you'll probably need deeper Posijoists. 450mm seems very deep to me, and implies that you have a pretty long span to cover. Worth checking the joist spacing, too, as if this 450mm depth is at 600mm centres you can probably reduce the depth of the joists by going to 400mm centres.

  25. It would be far easier to chipboard a whole floor than cut around numerous studs etc. There is no reason why a person in the future can't cut through the chipboard and support the edges if say they needed to move a pipe etc

  26. It is safer to have the floor in as a working platform. If you later need extensive access it will be from the ceiling below.

  27. Right, a new day (and I got my tractor going ?) I just got a call from Carrier and they are going to contact their factory In France and check availability and price for this GMC board, they tried to tell me I needed to pay for an engineer visit to diagnose the fault but I talked them out of that saying I had been given professional advise elsewhere. It will take a couple of days to get a reply. I will post it. I think I have decided to programme the UFH using the command unit in the cloakroom but keep the Wunda room stat in the hallway just to display the temp (not going to tell er indoors, she will play with the temp etc but it won’t change what I have done ?) plus the fact it will hide a hole in the wall.

  28. I have said before on another thread. The reason for smart meters is to enable half hourly charging so we can be charged a much higher rate should we have the audacity to want to cook our dinner at peak time (i.e at dinner time) But our masters don't have the balls, or honesty to say the grid is in danger of collapse and this is what we must do. No instead they try to promote them on the basis they will save you money and everyone will want that won't they. I predict this is the next miss selling scandal unfolding. I am shocked that the ASA have not stepped in to demand the real reason for promoting them to be told rather than the save money pack of lies.
